Resolution over moratorium on death penalty agreed in roundtable

It has been agreed in a recent roundtable discussion in Parliament for a resolution to call for an immediate moratorium on the mandatory death penalty. It was to call for a review of the capital punishment by a Parliamentary caucus.

The caucus will be made up of experts in the legal industry including lawyers, former judges, Non-governmental organisations as well as related stakeholders and parties. Representatives from some related NGOs and some members of the legal fraternity met at the roundtable discussion in Parliament recently where they agreed that there will be more discussions and talks on this issue with prominence given for the drug offences and related crimes. “Are you ready to die for the country?” I asked as I walked together with Simeon heading from Mirama Hotel on Jalan Maharajalela to Petaling Street.   My honest answer to my question was – No. I don’t believe I should die now. When I’m only 24. There is so. much. more that I want and believe I can do for my country.   “But what if it takes bloodshed for people to wake up? And this motorcyclist was in rage, thinking I was going to endanger his life. He drove so quickly, honking the whole way.. and as he approached my car, he bent over and shouted at the top of his lungs at me.   Wow, I thought. Malaysia Bar Council calls for democratic rights be protected, not threatened

The Malaysian Bar Council has issued a statement to call for the democratic rights of Malaysians be protected and promoted instead of being stifled as currently done. It is regretted that the government has been clamping down on the freedom of movement, expression and assembly on certain groups in the past week related to the Bersih 2.0 rally scheduled for July 9. PSM group was planning to overthrow the Govt, says cop

According to Penang deputy police chief SAC Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar, the recent arrest of Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj the Sungai Siput MP and 30 other members of the PSM or Parti Sosialis Malaysia was justified and needed as they were allegedly trying to wave war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when they were caught with Communist materials. Bar council invites Members of the Bar to monitor Bersih 2.0

The upcoming Bersih 2.0 rally is set to continue to hog the media limelight as the Malaysian Bar Council continues to promote the event which calls for fairer electrical process in Malaysia. Court: Remand of 30 were legitimate and legal

The 30 people who are arrested and remanded for 7 days recently for allegedly trying to ‘wage war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’ were detained legally and it was a legitimate measure taken by the police. A Syariah Bar Council to be formed soon

The prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that when the Syariah Legal Profession Act is tabled in Parliament, most likely early next year, there will then be the formation of a Syariah Bar Council which will be sanctioned to regulate the lawyers and protection of clients under the Syariah legal system. Bersih hits snag with Stadium location

The Bersih 2.0 rally which is scheduled for July 9 took an unexpected turn after organisers confirmed that they will cancel the street demonstration and will hold their event in a stadium after holding an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong recently. The rally’s objective was to call for a clean and fair electoral process.
